VST USB Floppy Drive FDUSB Review
VST USB Floppy Drive FDUSB Feature
- USB 1.44 floppy drive
- detachable 3' USB cable
The VST USB Floppy is extremely easy to setup, requiring that you only plug in the included USB cable. The lack of an external power source is a convenient feature that helps keep the number of cords to a minimum but it also draws more power that the keyboard USB port on the keyboard can deliver. As such, it must be plugged directly into one of the iMac's USB Ports or a USB hub. Rear
The drive also lacks the auto-ejection feature that one has come to associate with Macs. Instead, you have to choose 'Eject' from the Special menu or drag the disk icon to the trash. A message will then appear on the screen telling you it is safe to push the eject button on the VST USB Floppy Drive.
The drive is very compact at only 6"l x 4"w x 1"h and also has the same smooth texture as the Bondi side of the iMac, making it a perfect companion for the iMac. The VST USB Floppy Drive is reliable as well. With the Imation SuperDisk I have found that the 120mb diskette often looses it format and needs to be reformatted but I have not experienced any such phenomena with the VST USB Floppy Drive.
The VST USB Floppy Drive is compatible with 1.4MB Mac/PC floppies and reaches up to 500kb/s-transfer rate. With a 94ms average access time the VST USB Floppy Drive is an adequate substitute for the typical built-in floppy drive and an ideal solution for any iMac owner who needs a dedicated floppy drive
